Worldcoin’s World App has recently celebrated several milestones, including reaching 10 million total users signed up and facilitating over 70 million transactions. These achievements have been attained within less than a year since the service’s launch in June 2023. Notably, the project is witnessing an average of 2 million users per day and over 5 million monthly users.

The Worldcoin project is distinguished by its aim to establish a universal basic income system. Users register their identity through the company’s “World App” by undergoing eye scans using machines referred to as “Orbs.”
According to Remco Bloemen, head of blockchain at the Worldcoin Foundation, World App is not intended to be the sole solution on the Worldcoin protocol. The foundation hopes that this will spur other developers to create additional wallets for the protocol, catering to diverse user needs and preferences.
“Our hope is that this will encourage other contributors to develop additional wallets for the protocol, as different users have different needs and preferences for their wallet apps. In other words, down the road the Worldcoin community has expressed interest in alternatives to World App, so that a wider range of people can engage with Worldcoin as they choose.”
One of the remarkable recent use cases for World App involves a user in Kenya who shared their gratitude for being able to purchase a goat with funds received from a Worldcoin airdrop. This story went viral within the crypto community, prompting support for the user, who reportedly used additional cryptocurrency donations to acquire more goats, totaling “13 and counting.”

Interestingly, one of the goats acquired by the user has been named “Sam,” after Sam Altman, the co-founder of Worldcoin and current CEO of OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence startup. Altman’s contributions to AI technology, particularly through OpenAI’s ChatGPT product, have garnered recognition as state-of-the-art in generative AI technology.
